We had a blast meeting so many new friends and sampling out our coffees to a lot of new people this last Saturday. The attendance was very impressive, especially for it being the first snowfall of the year. In fact, we think it is the most coffee we have ever brewed in the 10 years we have been a part of the event!

We called to get the totals from Calhoun Square today and were very please to hear that 1,300 mugs sold and $5,000 was donated to House of Charity which will feed 10,000 people! This is truly an awesome event!

The coffees we showcased were Bolivia Copacabana Reserva, Ethiopia Yirgacheffe – Harfusa Cooperative, Bali Kintamani Natural Process, & Decaf Ethiopia Natural Process.

Every year we love to take part in the Calhoun Coffee Festival at Calhoun Square in Minneapolis. We look forward to enjoying a day sipping coffee with good people for a really good cause. This year the festival has partnered with House of Charity, a local non-profit whose mission is “Feed those in need, house those experiencing homelessness, and empower individuals to achieve independence”.

If you like coffee, tea, and desserts and a great cause, then this is the event for you! At the entrance, you pay $10 for a festival mug that is to be used to sample many of the specialty coffees being served from local roasteries. Admission will also give you access to various educational seminars as well as some fun entertainment options. All proceeds will benefit House of Charity.

Please join us this year on November 19th, 2011 from 10am to 3pm at the 22nd Annual Calhoun Coffee Festival.

This, again, was a success and we owe it all to our customers, new and old. Here are some of products and coffees we showcased and received most feedback on:

• Flamenco Organic Coffees and Espresso- per usual our wide array of micro-roasted Organic, Fair Trade, and Direct Trade coffees were very popular. The Nicaraguan Rio Coco as our “focus light roast” and the Minnesota Mudd Blend as our “dark roast lovers” option were both talked about a bunch, but the Papua New Guinea as an “intriging medium roast,” the Ethiopian Dara as the “coffee fans perfect light roast,” and the Kona coffee (especially out of the Bunn Trifecta) were holding their own as well. The creamy, decadent Matador Espresso Blend was also being pulled from the Casadio 2-group Espresso Machine and tasting just as sweet and smooth as ever!

• International Paper Hold & Go “Flamenco” Design, Insulated Hot Cups- these cups are the ultimate hot cup in the industry. It was hard not to spot a Flamenco hot cup in someone’s hand when walking the show. With so many people trying our coffees and espressos you wouldn’t have to look far to see the beautiful dancer silhouette. Even many of the presenters and speakers at the show could be seen sipping from our snazzy cups during their presentations! These cups are part of the “Sustainable Forestry Initiative” which promotes sustainable forest management and is something we feel is very important. Not only are they double-walled which means no sleeve is needed, but the lids are universal meaning the same lid fits the 12oz, 16oz, and 20oz cups!

• CoffeeVac Coffee Containers - these vacuum-sealed containers are all black, open and close with the squeeze of a button, and keep coffee fresher, longer. We love using these containers for our coffees and especially our espresso because we really understand the importance of freshness! If you care about keeping you specialty coffees fresh, then these containers are for you. Available in 1/2 lb, 1 lb, and 5 lb sizes.

Thank you to everyone that visited our Flamenco Organic Coffee booth at Chicago Coffee Fest this year. We had a great time sampling and talking coffee and espresso with everyone. We were very happy with all the positive response we received from our coffees and our famous Matador espresso. It is very important to us to be socially and ecologically responsible, which is why we offer only Organic coffees, with most being Fair Trade and a few even being Direct Trade! We never want to forget that producing an awesome cup of coffee is essential and FTO means nothing if the coffee isn’t stellar.
